Troop Withdrawal Could Be Doubl

ContributorNetwork - COMMENTARY | For eight years the U.S. military has been mired in a protracted war-turned-insurgency in Iraq. But now, at least on paper, the lingering engagement is marching to a close. As stipulated by the US-Iraqi Security Agreement signed in 2008, all US forces must withdraw by Dec. 31, 2011. That means starting sometime soon, probably late summer, the United States will begin to remove its remaining 47,000 troops, leaving behind only a few hundred soldiers and marines who would be tied to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
